A floor is bound to get a little dust and dirt build-up with the foot traffic it experiences on a daily basis. This should not deter you, though. Maintaining a clean hardwood floor may seem like a daunting, complicated task. However, it’s really quite simple if you put some preventive measures in place and care for it on a regular basis.
Whether a wood floor or not, we do always recommend a few preventive measures for clean floors. Placing doormats outside and inside entryways to help catch dirt from the bottoms of shoes is one simple way to help.
Doormats and entryway unloading zones won’t solve it all, though. One basic step to clean hardwood floors is simply running a vacuum with a hard surface mode or with the ability to disengage the beater bar. It’s very important the beater bar is not used on a hardwood floor because it can create scratches.
For a deeper clean, look for a high quality wood floor cleaner. We have found great success with Bona hardwood floor cleaner. Other wood floor cleaners will work as well, just so long as you follow the instructions thoroughly. Most hardwood floor cleaners require you to dilute the cleaner in water, dip a mop into the solution, and wring it out so the mop is simply damp. Run the damp mop along the hardwood floor.
With a wood floor cleaner, the most important thing is to not allow pools of water to build up during the process. Make sure to wipe up any excess water, as excess water can damage the hardwood floor. Once done, allow your clean hardwood floors to dry thoroughly.
