A step-by-step guide on how to buy flooring in a digital world.
If you’re reading this, that must mean you’ve completed Part 1 of our series, which provided some helpful tips on what to research when planning to purchase flooring online.
In Part 2, we will talk about the world of flooring samples. As you did your research, chances are you also may have placed some flooring sample orders. Since flooring is a big investment, you want to be sure you’ve seen it in person, felt the texture, and placed it in the room you’re installing it in. The sample process is a big step, and the most fun and helpful.
Keep these three things in mind when looking for and purchasing flooring samples:
- High Quality Photos. Because most flooring varies in color from piece to piece, it’s important that your retailer offer a variety of photos so that you can see how the floor looks over a larger area. Also, keep an eye out for photos with props. This will help you understand how the floor will work with your other design elements.
- Sample Size. Your retailer should be able to promptly send you samples. Weather your looking for hard wood flooring or vinyl flooring samples should be of sufficient length (at least 10″), and have detailed information on them to help you properly inspect them. TIP: If you’re requesting tile flooring samples, confirm with your retailer how they are packaged to ensure they stay intact during shipment.
- Full Box Samples. Sometimes, a 10” sample simply isn’t enough to make a decision. Sometimes, a full box of flooring is necessary so that you can lay it out in your space and see how it looks in its full color spectrum. Search for retailers who will offer to send you a sample box at no commitment, and discount the cost of the box from the final flooring order.
Read Part 3 to learn more about the ordering process and what to keep in mind before you purchase. Happy sampling!
